97 Photographers.
15 women.
82 men.
majority of this being of a white ethnicity.
This can be seen as a negative reflection on how the world is being portrayed this group of photographers. Due to the fact they are all predominantly white males, who at face value have suffered very little in life. However each photographer in this agency has dealt with their own struggles in different ways and often times detail this and express their suffering through their photographs. Giving for an intriguing viewing experience. But ultimately this agencies bias and lack of diversity is a hindrance to the quality of their work in this modern world. With a lack of representation for women, people of colour and minorities in general gives this photography agency a narrow minded kind of feel from the outset.
Inge Morath:
Born in Austria in 1923, she studied languages in Berlin and always carried with her the gift for pictures and words. Working in many different areas throughout her life from a translator and journalist to the Austrian editor for the Heute. Begging her photography journey in 1951 and then joined magnum photography in 1953. Her life as a photographer allowed her to travel the world covering an extensive list of countries any explorer would be proud of, from China, Russia and North Africa to New York, Europe and the Middle East. It is commented that she “Felt at ease anywhere” and this is evident in the variety of her work as she worked mainly with portraits of passers by or celebrities and also the lands that she traveled as she was very adapt in photographing places. Some of my favourite pieces by her are as follows:
